(getting clean and smelling good)
Is there such thing as a quick update when you have been missing from the blog world for 9 months??Not really....
so... what have we been doing since the new baby? Will that satisfy everyone's inquiries?
I had "labor" for most of Thursday, after having my membranes stripped TWICE! I put labor in quotes because it was on and off, and very frustrating. Nonetheless I started the day feeling a bit weird, so I texted D. and made arrangements for the girls to go to Nana's house. Finally D. arrived and we made the trek to the hospital.
I feel like I had been ready for days, but on Thursday my "to-do" list was really complete and I was twiddling my thumbs. D and I stopped to get dinner and then with a few really hard contractions I checked into Labor and Delivery. Mind you since Tuesday had had been 3 1/2 cm dilated, I thought okay, 1/2 more cm and I can get an epidural.
By the time the doc came and checked me I was at a 4 1/2, but my contractions were totally erratic and the monitors weren't picking up the pain I was feeling. I was ordered to walk, so D and I did approx. 30 floors of stairs!! With a brief break to watch the Office! Needless to say my calves were SO sore the next day.
11pm- 5 1/2 cm, start pitocin drip
1 am- turn up pitocin
1:30- turn up pitocin again!!
2am- can i have my epidural now, anesthesiologist comes in and tells me he just needs to prep. then 5 mins later, there is an emergency c-section and i have to wait..more pitocin
3am- ANOTHER emergency c-section...more waiting and turning up the pitocin
(mind you D has been asleep since about 12 and is snoring!)
4:15- The OR anesthesiologist comes in and says the OR is slow, and asks if he can give the me the epidrual.... uhhh.... YES!
5:00am- sweet relief... and I made it to a 7
5:45am- call the doc there is a ton of pressure.... dialated to a 10 and ready to push... my mom walks in as I start.
6:08am- She's here!
It was all very quick, and it was the most painful delievery I have had. But my recovery has been amazingly fast. She is only 5 days old and I feel really good. knock on wood.
We spent 3 days in the hospital because E. had jaudice... turns out she is a different blood type than me. She spent 36 hours under billi-lights.
We made it home on Sunday night, and SO FAR, things seem to be going really smoothly. Even though we have been back to the hosptial everyday since, to check her billi-levels. (i think today is the last time for at least a week, fyi: the hospital is 30 miles away)
Thankfully the girls have been able to stay on the same schedule and E. is just "there". D. has been here and there theses first few days, and super helpful taking the girls to school in the am. My mama came on Monday night and stayed until yesterday... she was a great help and even gave E. her first bath.
E. is a very even tempered kid... a blessing.
As for the rest of us....
H. is excellling in kindergarten, she is in the 1st grade reading group and loves to be the center of attention (duh). She is coping well as the big sister with only a few "I hate being the big sister" moments.
P. is still loving preschool and improving everyday. Her vocabulary and the silly things she comes up with is amazing. I couldn't believe how big she seemed when I came home with E.
D. has finished all of his Law school classes and is now studying for his last EVER law school exams!! Yah.. it felt like this day would never come.
As for our future plans I will have to keep you informed, because well we just don't know yet. Which is a little maddening!
just a quick thanks to everyone who has helped with dinners! They are so yummy and we are so thankful! and thank you for all the well wishes and love.
it's good to be back....
